Research and stories from the front lines of conservation

Hey there!

I’m Josh - a biologist, photographer, polar guide, and conservationist based on BC’s West coast.

My work combines the research of conservation science with the creation of media to share these wild species and places with the widest audience possible.

Stills Portfolio

From Tufted Puffins flying in circles around their breeding colonies to skiers flying down a fresh untouched slope, I aim to capture scenes that bring the subject closer to the viewer. I strongly believe in the power of imagery to help tell stories and inspire curiosity.

I hope to combine the ability to conduct cutting-edge research in remote areas with a willingness to carry extra weight in order to capture engaging imagery for each project I am involved in. My images are powerful in their ability to share the stories of conservation that are traditionally inaccessible to those outside the academic sphere.

My images tell the stories of the places I live and work in. I am always happy to chat if you have specific projects that require imagery, or if you just want to hear more about the places in images you see here.

Feel free to browse my galleries, and if you are looking for a print don’t hesitate to reach out!

ECOLOGICAL CONSULTING

Over 5 years of remote scientific research experience

I have worked on a variety of projects on focal species ranging from migratory shorebirds on mudflats to endangered pine trees on alpine ridgelines. I am familiar with modern ecological monitoring techniques as well as emerging technologies like GPS tracking tags and the applications of drone imagery.

MEDIA PRODUCTION AND STORYTELLING

Using the creation of stills and videos to help share scientific research with a wide audience

Alongside my research projects, I always have a camera on hand to document the places, people, and species in a journalistic style. While not everyone has access to many of the products of scientific research, I aim to document ecological research as it happens in order to broaden its audience.
